Systems Librarian/Archivist, Historic New England, Boston, MA         2007-Present

Responsible for overseeing technology needs of Historic New England's Collections Team, which includes the organization's Library and Archives and its museum collections and conservation center. Oversaw tecnological implementation of the organization's Collections Access Project, which is focused on making collections more accessible through the implementation of a comprehensive electronic catalog and digital library. Worked with vendors and systems integrators to acquire and customize necessary software. Managed conversion and cleanup of metadata and digital imagery. Developed custom programming to perform data conversion operations.

Dean's Fellow for Technology Support, Simmons College
Graduate School of Library and Information Science, Boston, MA
         2006-2008

Responsible for workstation and server support, instructional support, and web application development for the Simmons College GSLIS. Supported introduction of new and emerging technologies to the graduate school, including wikis and blogs. Helped develop a successful grant proposal to begin a podcasting pilot project at the school. Developed web-based tools for online assessment, internship assignment, event registration, and other needs identified by the GSLIS staff. Worked with faculty in the LIS program to meet technology needs. Managed technological implementation of Moodle course management system, including integration with Datatel campus information system. Archival Intern, Simmons College Archives, Boston, MA         2006-2007

Developed project plan for photography, rehousing and enhanced description of the college's memorabilia collection. Developed extensions to existing Filemaker database. Rehoused and updated cataloging information for bulk of collection. Created digital imagery for approximately 150 objects.

Systems Editor/Library Manager, The Tennessean, Nashville, TN               1998-2006

Responsible for overseeing the research and technology needs of Nashville's dominant daily newspaper. Supervised support and library staff. Managed technology and research expenditures. Served as liaison between newsroom, systems, and online departments. Oversaw purchasing of computer software and hardware for approximately 250 users. Performed and coordinated system administration functions for Sii, OpenPages, Digital Collections, and QuickWire systems. Taught training classes on technology-related topics, and assisted reporters and editors with computer-assisted reporting projects. Developed remote-access strategies for reporters and bureaus.

Oversaw development and launch of newsroom intranet, including creation of workflow applications and informational tools. Oversaw creation of electronic budgeting system for newsroom. Served on committee overseeing electronic pagination project. Interviewed vendors, visited sites, and evaluated software implementations. Coordinated installation of 200+ new PCs and 8 new servers. Worked with vendor's onsite project manager to create software development specifications. Coordinated migration of electronic archives. Oversaw tagging project to ensure copyright compliance.

Developed library policies and procedures; supervised research and archival activities. Initiated computer cataloging project for books and archival collections, and took steps to improve organization of stack areas. Oversaw creation of comprehensive PDF archive. Evaluated and purchased reference materials and electronic database services.

Served on various strategic planning committees related to online operations, technology, and 18-34 readership. Served on "remodel" committee in charge of redesigning newspaper. Served on Gannett corporate committee evaluating online calendar solutions for nationwide deployment.

Attended trade shows and conferences related to newsroom information services and technology, including NEXPO, NICAR, SLA, and SISUG. In November 2002, spent a week at Murray State University working with students as part of the "Newspapers in Residence" program.

In 1998, served as part of a three-person team to launch the paper's news web site, Tennessean.com. Developed graphics, page templates, CGI scripting, and publishing procedures. Worked with programmer to develop HTML gateway for SII editorial system. Developed database-driven online election coverage. Assisted with online presentation of newsroom projects.

In 2002, arranged partnership with The Greenville News to develop and refine a database-driven web and print publishing solution for high school sports. Collaborative project resulted in increases in web traffic and print circulation. Participated in further planning and development, culminating in the national rollout of the PrepsFactory system to other Gannett properties, September, 2005.

In January 1999, served as a consultant for the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle after its offices were destroyed by a tornado. Supervised the creation and technical operation of temporary newsroom in a nearby hotel. In January 2000, coordinated technology needs for 30 staffers assigned to cover the Super Bowl. Arranged installation of phone lines and rental of cell phones, and installed computer and networking equipment. In May, 2003 helped coordinate emergency operations for The Jackson Sun after a tornado struck the town.

First runner up for 2003 Jimmy Davy award, which is "presented to the newsroom employee each year who best represents Jimmy's commitment to journalism and his 44-year career at The Tennessean."

Technology Specialist, The Soling Program, Syracuse University                          1996-1998

Provided systems support and consulting for 60+ students enrolled each semester in Syracuse University's creative problem solving program. Installed and maintained hardware and software in a MacOS-based computing environment. Administered a server running Windows NT 4.0 and Netscape Internet servers. Instructed students in video and sound digitizing, web and multimedia design, Photoshop, Director, and other packages. Specified hardware and software purchases.

Webmaster Intern, Proxicom, Inc.                                                                   Summer 1997

Implemented web site designs for corporate clients including Wachovia Bank, Amtrak, and Cox Interactive Media. Authored competitive analysis for Cox about localized "city guide" sites.  Designed a prototype of an oil pipeline transaction tracking system for Transport4, an oil-pipeline consortium. Produced HTML templates for use by The Daily Reflector, Greenville, North Carolina.

Publishing Technology Specialist, Time Life Inc.                                                        1995-1997

Offered hardware and software support to the editorial and promotional staff of Time Life Books, Video, and Music. Duties included hardware repair, configuration, and maintenance, software installation, and troubleshooting of user problems in a mixed Macintosh and PC environment. Worked with Appleshare, Novell and Filemaker servers. Created and maintained networked Filemaker databases. Assisted with move to new headquarters building.
